Hellbender Salamanders are an endangered species and loss of habitat has been a major contributing factor to their classification. Initial attempts to devise artificial nest boxes resulted in them being tossed around in high storm flows, not ideal. Our team devised a hydrodynamic nest box for added stability during flood flows. Additionally, we are investigating the mixing of water within the nest boxes to ensure the appropriate amount of dissolved oxygen is present to provide an adequate habitat for the salamanders.
